About the Artist
Sharon Schwartzmann is a contemporary oil painter who creates
visual poetry in the abstracted female and other sensuous forms.
Schwartzmann’s attention was drawn to the female figure which she
began to draw and paint over 40 years ago. It is a subject matter
which interests her and remains vital to her visual expression.
Each figure
becomes a metapor for an aspect of her inner self.
Her medium is oil on canvas that begins with drawing directly and
working
quickly with an oil bar to freely get a sense of the figure. She then
switches to
brushes and paint, laying in blocks of color to define and form a
connection between her persona and the canvas.
At the point where she is pleased with the image, Schwartzmann pushes
for more expressiveness, honesty and intensity. At this point, she
risks
losing the comfort of appearance as she strives to move toward
authentic self-recognition. With success, there is an intense
identification on the part of the viewer.
Biography
Originally from Washington state, Schwartzmann spent many years in
California prior to moving to northern New Mexico 13 years ago.
Her studio is a delightfully converted barn in the lovely rural village
of Corrales, New Mexico. This is where her life-long dream of being
a
serious working artist committed to developing a personal visual
language is coming true.
